IPTV Anti-Freeze: How Our System Keeps Streams Smooth

IPTV anti-freeze technology is built into every plan we sell. Here is what it does, what it cannot fix on its own, and the steps that get the smoothest picture in your home.

Nothing spoils a match, a film or the evening news like a picture that keeps stopping to load. Our Anti-Freeze System is built into every plan to keep streams moving. It works best as a partnership, though: we look after the server side, and a few simple steps at home take care of the rest.

What is IPTV freezing?

When you watch IPTV, your player app downloads a few seconds of video ahead of what you are watching and keeps that small store topped up. Freezing (often called buffering) happens when the store runs out faster than it can be refilled. The picture stops, a spinning wheel appears, and playback resumes once enough data has arrived.

That shortfall can start in three places:

  • The server: where the stream comes from, especially during busy moments such as big live events.
  • The internet connection: the line into your home and how it copes at peak times.
  • Your home network and device: the Wi-Fi signal, cables, router and the TV, box or stick itself.

Our IPTV anti-freeze system explained

The Anti-Freeze System works on the first of those three: the server side. It is designed to keep streams flowing smoothly when demand peaks, so that a surge of viewers tuning into the same live event does not cause the picture to stall.

You do not need to switch anything on. It is part of the service on every plan, and it works automatically in the background whatever device you use.

What this means in practice

If your home connection is healthy, the Anti-Freeze System removes the most common cause of freezing on live TV. If your Wi-Fi is weak or your line is slow, no server-side technology can fully make up for it, which is why the home checklist below matters.

Why freezing is worse during live events

On-demand films rarely freeze, because your player can download a generous amount ahead and ride out short dips. Live TV is different. The player can only buffer a few seconds ahead of the live broadcast, so there is far less room for error.

Big live moments add a second pressure: far more people tune in at the same time, on the server side and on your home internet line as everyone in the household and the neighbourhood watches too. That combination is why freezing tends to appear at exactly the moments you least want it. The Anti-Freeze System is aimed squarely at the server side of that problem; the checklist further down helps with the home side.

What anti-freeze can and cannot fix

Step by step: set up your home for smooth streaming

Work through these steps once and most homes will never see a freeze caused by their own setup.

  1. Measure your speed where you watch. Run a speed test on the TV or box itself, or on a phone held next to it, at the time you usually watch. Aim for at least 10 Mbps for HD, 25 Mbps for 4K and 50 Mbps for 8K.
  2. Connect the main TV by cable. An Ethernet cable from the router to the TV or box is the single most effective fix for freezing.
  3. If you must use Wi-Fi, use 5 GHz. Most routers broadcast two networks. The 5 GHz one is faster and less crowded; the 2.4 GHz one reaches further but is slower.
  4. Move the router into the open. Routers hidden in cupboards, behind TVs or at the far end of the home lose a lot of signal. A central, raised position works best.
  5. Add mesh or powerline for distant rooms. Thick stone walls are common in older Cypriot homes and villas. A mesh Wi-Fi point or powerline adapter carries the signal to the TV.
  6. Pause heavy downloads. Game updates, cloud backups and large file downloads compete with your stream. Schedule them for overnight.
  7. Restart your router once in a while. Routers that have run for months can slow down. A restart every few weeks keeps them fresh.
  8. Keep the app and device updated. Install updates for the player app and the TV, box or stick when they are offered.

How to tell where a freeze is coming from

If you do see freezing, these quick tests narrow down the cause before you contact us:

  1. Check other channels. If only one channel stutters while others play smoothly, the issue is probably that source. Note the channel and time and send them to us.
  2. Check other devices. Try the same channel on a phone on the same Wi-Fi. If it plays well there, the problem is likely the TV device or its connection.
  3. Check a cable. If a wired connection fixes it, the cause is your Wi-Fi.
  4. Check the time of day. If freezing only happens in the evening on every device, your home line may be struggling at peak times.

When to message support

If you have worked through the steps above and still see freezing, message us on WhatsApp. Tell us what you found from the tests: which channels, which devices, wired or Wi-Fi, and what time. With that information we can usually pinpoint the cause quickly. Support is free and available 24/7 on every plan. See our IPTV support guide for what else to include.

Included with every plan

The Anti-Freeze System is not an upgrade. It comes with every plan, alongside HD, 4K and 8K, Catch-Up, the built-in VPN and free support, from €19 a month or €6.25 a month on the 12 Months plan. Compare every option on our IPTV packages page, or contact us with any question first.

FAQ

IPTV Anti-Freeze: common questions

Does anti-freeze stop all buffering?

It removes the causes we control on the server side. It cannot fix a weak Wi-Fi signal or a slow line at home, which is why the checklist on this page matters.

Do I need to switch anti-freeze on?

No. It is part of the service on every plan and works automatically.

Why does one channel stutter when others are fine?

Occasionally a single source has a problem. Send us the channel name and the time on WhatsApp so we can check it.

Does it work over Wi-Fi?

Yes, though a wired connection is always steadier. On Wi-Fi, use the 5 GHz band and keep the router within a room or two of the TV.

Ready to upgrade your TV?
